Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Chief Engineer within Sports Series, we are looking to recruit an Assistant Chief Engineer to work on whole vehicle projects in detail, from concept to production.
The Assistant Chief Engineer will provide technical leadership inside cross functional teams within new technical areas. This role will be responsible for delivering projects, as well as being hands on, with plenty of technical ownership.
Work with the Project Manager and the Project coordinator to support (S) High level plan, from G0 through to G9 Gateways
Work with the whole Product Development team and the Project Coordinator to support the Component plan
Work with the Attribute Owners and the Project Coordinator to approve and support the Attribute plan
Work with the Programme Manager to develop and approve (A) the vehicle specification book
Work with Engineering Design Director to finalize specification targets and high level concept for the vehicle.
Follow the defined Virtual Release process.
Work with the Studio to agree a styling plan that supports the VR process.
Work with the Legislation Manager to ensure (S) vehicle complies with homologation requirements.
Component & System Financial:
Work with Functional areas to support Budget definition, new technology solutions, BOM and investment definition and forecasting
Component & System Technical:
Work with Quality Manager, Project Engineers and Attribute Owners to define and approve the detailed Risk Assessment, FMEAs, DFM and Technical Specifications.
Work with Quality Manager, Project Engineers and Attribute Owners to define and approve BCRs, DVP and ETRS (Engineering Timing and Release Schedule).
Work with Project Engineers and Attribute owners to define and approve the detailed subjective, objective specifications of vehicle systems, the relative attribute plan and final attribute sign-off.
Work with Durability to define and approve the Vehicle RDC (reference duty cycle).
Lead vehicle technical design to meet all programme and technical targets. Approved by Line Chief Engineer.
Work with Design Office Manager to ensure the highest design integrity.
Work with defined high level vehicle targets and overall vehicle concept to evolve a detailed design solution in the CAD environment.
Work with Chief Designer and Line Chief Engineer to ensure clarity of roles between platform and vehicle.
Ensure vehicle styling always respects defined technical requirements.
Test & Development:
Work with Vehicle Development to define and approve Specification Test Matrix, supporting the Vehicle development plan.
Work with Vehicle Development to define and approve the Proof of Concept phase (PoC), Mule design and development, series prototypes & validation
Support virtual and physical prototype build activities
Support Drive events as required
Lead the following meetings (R): Design review, Attribute meeting, Styling Design Review and Risk Assessment, high level Virtual build reviews.
Support Project meetings, boardwalks and gateways.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
Engineering degree (or equivalent) minimum 2.1 classifications is desirable.
Must have a broad background in automotive product development activities – design, attributes, simulation etc
Experience of delivering vehicle programmes in a cross functional environment
