Principal Engineer - Electrical-Optical Interconnect Architect

As a result of our continued growth, The Huawei Hardware interconnect team in Phoenix, AZ is seeking strong technical experts to drive multiple strategic initiatives and deliver the most advanced optical solutions in our newest technologies including communication and IT systems. We have multiple positions available, each will carry a different area of focus.

In this position, you will be responsible for electrical-optical hybrid interconnect technologies to meet high speed IO needs. You should have a very clear picture about short distance electrical-optical interconnect solutions such as silicon/Indium Phosphorus associated technologies. You will need to guide engineers to develop new solutions for interconnect architecture to improve data speed and reduce bit error rate. You will also be responsible for selecting and validating optical module, optical driver/TIA, optical connector, optical fiber, optical MUX/DEMUX and other optical associated devices to build whole architecture.

A candidate should be familiar with industry status and evolution trends, the current technical bottlenecks and technical solutions.
Responsible for industry competitive analysis, technical planning and collaborations with industry and university resources to build core capabilities on optical technologies for next generation high-speed interconnect technologies.


10+ years of experience with MS in Electrical Engineering is highly desired; PH.D. is a plus
Proficiency in optical fiber communication, high-speed optical module, and high-speed optical device hardware architecture and principles. Solid foundation on analog design, digital circuit and communication theory and know how to link them with practical designs
Proficiency in high-speed simulation and design, RF design, signal integrity theory, and test; understand system level tradeoffs and optical designs.
Familiar with optical interconnect associated standards and be able to contribute
Familiar with electrical system simulation tools such as ADS and familiar with optical system simulation tools such as VPI. Be able to use those simulation methods to improve bandwidth of entire network and optimize eye diagram at the transmitter side and sensitivity at the receiver end.
Familiar with Keysight, Tektronix, and Anritsu optical associated testing equipment such as optical wave device analysis tool LCA and optical sampling scope etc. You need to leverage those testing methods to develop and test optical module technologies for Huawei’s products.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel internationally
