The focus of an SAP Architect’s expertise is typically in the planning and design phases of an implementation of an SAP business application suite or a transition from on premise landscapes into cloud based applications and services. Nowadays SAP Architects need to be familiar with the Digital Economy / Transformation and the top technology trends enabling it where IT organizations transition into hybrid system landscape with a mix of on premise platforms, private cloud solutions and public cloud services. However, the SAP Architect’s expertise it could also be leveraged on strategic corporate initiatives such as business process improvement initiatives, establishing internal customer centers of expertise or developing ongoing architectural governance processes. The engagement model of an Architect is not strictly limited to the planning/design phases, but may also span the build and operations phases to ensure proper implementation and operationalization of the business solutions.

An Enterprise Architect has a very good overview about new solutions and the roadmap of SAP solutions/infrastructures – a strong network into SAP is key. He understands SAPs business and application reference architectures as well as available industry specific or generic reference architectures. This helps to demonstrate to the customer how to integrate new solutions into existing customer landscapes.

The Principal Enterprise Architect role is an active role that is customer focused. The position requires a combination of strategic and practical experience.
Act as a Coach and role model for more junior colleagues
Leads customer executives (indirect leadership) during the engagement. (project execution as well as in Sales cycles (consultative selling)) )
Introduce and translate SAP’s Architecture Standards into customers Enterprise Architecture
Advisory / Delivery
Act as a trusted advisor for strategic customers
Independent execution of complex projects or programs/deliverables

Demonstrating active leadership
Manage diverse expectations
Develop enterprise-wide roadmaps based on SAPs long-term Solution & Product roadmap.

Experience at SAP or management consulting firm: +5 years
Principal Business Consulting Experience: +15 years (preferably in big 5 consulting)
C-level experience (advising customer decision makers and influencing the closing of deals)
