AMD is looking for a highly technical leader for the exciting role of building and leading a customer-facing applications engineering team in the growing market segment of networking. You will interact with key engineering and management stakeholders of the customer and make sure their products are able to get best entitlement in terms of features and performance from AMD products they use. Though this position is based in Austin, this person will interact with global customers and global AMD teams.
Role & Responsibilities:
Be the engineering lead for the key customer programs and resolve technical challenges/problems in execution of those programs ranging from functionality issues to complex-system issues to solution architecting and development of a solution for a new feature.
Work closely with systems engineering and business/field team to drive design-win through right engineering engagement and solution. Work closely with program managers and field in driving the execution of the engineering execution of the program.
Drive direct engineering discussions with customer stakeholders, understand their problems/challenges and propose/provide solutions to the problems they are trying to solve.
Be able to hire/manage top-talent and build a top-notch team to cover different expertise/domain areas needed for customer engineering of networking customers.
Be hands-on engineer who can roll-up-sleeves and dive into any complex internal or customer technical issues and resolve that. This will be a wide spectrum from benchmarking activities to functionality debugging to performance tuning.
Be the debug lead for highly complex problem requiring multi-party alignment and leadership in steering the engineering efforts towards quick resolution.
Be the techlead-cum-program owner for critical customer program and drive the execution of the program to the successful launch and beyond.
Manage and handle escalations with a sense of urgency and proactive problem solving.
Make sure customer issues are prioritized and response/resolution metrics are met for the customer programs per QoS.
Connect and coordinate internally with key stakeholders in cross functional team to address and balance prioritization of reasonable needs/asks vs. push back on others.
Communicate with customer as well as AMD executives to get sponsorship for critical needs of the customer requiring large resource and budget investment.
Build strong engineering relationship with the counterparts on customer side.
Engineering degree in EE or CS with 10+ years of relevant engineering/leadership experience in networking market segment.
Extensive breadth of technical knowledge of complete stack (SoC, Firmware, SW, Tools, Applications) and experience in multi-disciplinary areas esp. in the x86 processors and networking customers.
Extensive experience in high-volume high-tier customer facing engineering roles including customer solutions architecting.
Experience in handling competing priorities simultaneously and keeping a good balance between strategic and tactical activities.
Experience in establishing and leading highly productive team of engineers and creating/deploying right processes for efficiency and scale.
Hands-on in-depth experience in software solutions (Linux, device-drivers, networking workloads/applications/benchmarking, end-product use-cases, BIOS/SoC interactions etc.)
Fluency in Asian languages a plus.
