Main duties and responsibilities:
Lead, develop and execute reliability assessments of evolving technologies/materials and underlying processes to identify potential issues and corrective actions that can enable their timely and successful adoption.
Conduct forensic (i.e. failure) analyses of electronic equipment and components by studying the physics and chemistry of the failure site.
Champion and drive findings with internal and external partners
Participate in inter-organizational and outside interactions with supplier partners and industry consortia.
MS or PhD in chemistry, materials science, physics or related discipline.
Hands-on laboratory experience with destructive and non-destructive methods and tools needed to conduct high quality characterizations and analyses of materials used in electronic and optical assemblies, such as interconnects, printed circuit board assemblies, and components.
Experience with physics of electronic assemblies and packages, especially boundary conditions related to adversarial conditions due to heat, humidity, power, grounding, ESD, contaminants, etc.
Familiarity with basic principles and materials associated with electronic equipment, such as thermo-mechanical and mechanical test methods used to assess quality and reliability of electronic products
Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external colleagues.
Proven strong team player. Works effectively and cooperatively with others; places team objectives and success above personal goals.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum supervision, self-starting and proactive, and has strong organizational skills.
Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
Must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, set realistic goals, and complete commitments on schedule.
Proven ability to respond quickly to changing business needs.
Experience with optical metallographic methods, scanning electron microscopy and x-ray inspection.
Skills to plan and conduct materials testing.
Working knowledge of statistical analyses, including design of experiments.
Functional understanding of electronic circuit components.
Knowledge or experience in reliability experimentation.
