What you’ll be doing...
The Principal Engineer is responsible for the on-boarding and operationalizing of applications within VCP (Verizon Cloud Platform). This position will be responsible for the BNC (Base Network Controller) of the iEN (Intelligent Edge Network) and integrating all upstream and downstream network elements. The Principal Engineer will function as a subject matter expert in automation and cloud-computing and leverage those skills to drive efficiencies in the network.
Design and Performance:
Responsible for leading the implementation of feature designs and will provide feedback and engineering solutions to improve reliability and performance. They will partner with all key stakeholders to ensure new features and\or fixes are swiftly rolled out with no negative impact to customers or system performance. Lead in defining system and network variables to appropriately benchmark the system and ensure all reliability and performance metrics are met.
This position will require independent thinking and a creative mindset with the ability to leverage automation to eliminate manual processes and provide near real-time visibility into system health and performance. Able to identify deficiencies and quickly develop a solution in a DevOps manner to help improve the reliability and add operational efficiencies in the network.
Subject matter expert in cloud-computing and automation within the group and externally. Host and\or actively participate in meetings with key stakeholders regarding the roadmap planning and performance testing. Mentor junior team members on system design, cloud computing and networking concepts. Provide concise weekly updates to management and effectively present project status to leadership.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have:
A degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
7+ years of experience in telecommunications.
Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (Perl, Python, Shell, Ruby).
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
Experience with Linux systems in an enterprise production environment.
Experience with SDN/NFV.
Knowledge of Network Configuration Protocol (NETCONF) and data modeling language YANG.
Experience developing REST based web services.
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, load balancing, firewalls, HTTP, SSL, DNS, DHCP.
Ability to quickly analyze situations, identify problems, and provide solutions.
Ability to lead and drive projects to completion.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
