To provide technical and subject matter expert support to the commercial organization, primarily to Product Line Management and Sales. Actively drive and manage the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Mechanical Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.
Major Roles and Responsibilities:
Maintain expert level of product knowledge and applications.
Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.
Provide design and specification development support to consultants, integrators and distributors.
Respond to functional and technical elements of quote or proposal requests from customers
Perform technical/ product training for internal sales people and engineers at targeted accounts.
Perform product training, typically onsite, for key MSO customers
Travel to project sites to provide training troubleshooting services
Assist the Technology group where applicable in the design and development of new products, product improvements and tools
Maintain accurate records of target opportunities, projects, contacts and technical correspondence in company approved databases
Develop a deep working understanding of the RF coaxial connector product line.
Make necessary engineering calculations to support product selection/recommendation.
Develop a primary technical relationship with customers.
Provide input to product feature enhancements and process improvements.
Support R&D engineering in translating customer's needs into a manufacturable product.
Resolve customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives.
Maintain professional business relationships within target accounts.
Take advantage of opportunities to participate in industry standards activities
Maintain and update customer training materials
Develop and maintain a high level of expertise on optical fiber, hardware, connectivity, and cable products
Role within Group:
Function as product technical expert to commercial groups.
Convey Voice of Customer to technical groups.
Offer other expert assistance to product line management and project teams consistent with own experience such as liaison with manufacturing facilities and statistical analysis.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Support assigned RF coaxial connector product line
Respond to internal/external technical inquiries about optical products.
Manage project requirements for technical support based on priorities and potential impact to Corning’s commercial and technical objectives.
Support departmental and plant objectives.
Participate on field project teams as required, typically in support of product development activities.
Travel Requirements: Minimum of 25%
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hrs.
Required Education: BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Required Experience: 4-7 years of experience in an engineering role, preferable with some customer facing responsibilities
